I’ve resolved that I am going to try (emphasis on the word ‘try’) to wear neon eyeliner (ala Derek Lam & Peter Som) sometime this month. I love it on the runway, though fear it may not translate to real life people quite as well.
It seems the trick to avoiding looking like a drag queen cabaret singer is to let it work on it’s own, don’t combine it with eyeshadow, false eyelashes or blackliner. Apply it in a thick line so that it is more of an intense streak of colour than a true ‘eyeliner’ and don’t go too crazy with the flicks or cat eye look (it can all get a bit cirque de soleil).
Lots of brands have neon or brightly coloured eye pencils(BYS has some as well as liquid liners), but I’m keen to try something a little more solid like this Citreuse Liquid eyeliner by LimeCrime ($13.99). The biggest challenge with neon eyeliner is choosing the right colour, I’m going to start with an orange or pink. Though, whether I dare leave the house with it is another story.
