Mo’ for me

I’ve blogged about the brilliant Mo’ woof dog collars before - exquisitely made, highest quality and fashionable dog collars made in Christchurch, New Zealand.  Now, creator and designer Kathryn Leah Payne has turned her skills to collars for humans, in a full range of leather accessories for us two legged beings.

The Prizefight Collar

I love the modern armour styling of the collars ($129 – $159 NZD)  and Knuckleduster clutches ($149 NZD), they’d be at home in a wardrobe full of Sass & Bide (can I have that wardrobe?). I also love how Kathryn has translated the original Mo’ woof concept to extend to fashion, not leaving the dog collars behind in a reinvention but elevating both sides of the business.

What I love most though is the incredible craftsmanship – Kathryn is a master of leatherwork and seriously knows her stuff, she takes the one person business to a whole new level. It’s really exciting to see. The Sucker Punch duffel bag $550 (best names ever) is made from softest calfskin with brass hardware and more than competition for other designer bags, even before you consider it has been made entirely by hand  by the designer – pretty special.

Neat Places recently featured Kathryn in a great look at her working process which can be read here.

JayJays does dogs like Balenciaga

Dog sweaters, but not for actual dogs.

If you can, take your mind back to 2011, when Balenciaga (German Shepherd) and Givenchy (Rottweiler) had their awesome, memorable and coveted fierce dog jumpers. Also the same year as our Doberman tees FYI, they’re vintage now.

Now in 2013, this pretty sweet, snoop ruff knit sweater has appeared in JayJays for 2013 winter for $35.99 NZD. Admittedly, this trend was very slow to trickle down to the high street, but I’m glad it made it.

I think this was the first time I’ve bought something from JayJays in about 10 years, it makes me feel old.

Do you think JayJays have ever been used in the same line as Balenciaga before? I was hoping that snappy title would have a certain shock value.

WALL

Now available to buy online here and from my stockists

I have been wanting to upload this post for what seems like forever, I couldn’t wait any longer so I here it is!

I’ve been working away on a new line of wall decals, bridging the gap between traditional art, street art and my beloved, wallpaper. These designs have been created with the medium in mind, incorporating striking motifs, graphic line and awesome colours (oh and cats of course) that look mint on their own or grouped together.

SOME INFORMATION:

Experimenting and trialing with different materials, the entire range is printed on to super cool adhesive ‘fabric’ - a fine, polyester with a light weave which means they apply seamlessly appearing as a mural or wall paper. Because they are completely matte (unlike shiny vinyl) they don’t reflect light and actually look like part of the wall. If walls aren’t your thing they can also be stuck on glass, the fridge, doors, coffee table, your laptop…running out of creative ideas here.

Like my prints, they are long-lasting and printed with archival quality inks so they won’t fade, wrinkle, peel, fall off the wall or take parts of the wall with them. They can be stuck on almost any indoor surface – but avoid applying to walls that have been freshly painted within the last month. They can be easily peeled off and reapplied anywhere you like. Guaranteed safe for use in homes with even the meanest landlords. Worth the effort for even the most fickle interior designer.

Veronica B: Leather awesomeness

Veronica B is a really new (open since mid-April) Auckland business that has me drooling over almost everything. The girls at Veronica B specialise in New Zealand designed and made leather goods (good goods) including oversize envelope clutches in all shades of the rainbow, gorgeous totes, studded cuffs and (this is what really cemented my love) dog collars ($40).

I love the Lilly Tote ($230NZ) for everyday brightness, the Iconic Ella tote ($280NZ) for a more polished look and a whole candy store of Ella envelope clutches ($85NZ). I’m also really taken with their range of plain and studded leather bracelets ($25-$35NZ) (these would make awesome gifts for cool friends). Basically I’m just listing everything and pretending to be choosy. Veronica B also makes pretty belts AND high waisted leather shorts, in all sorts of colours. I like colour (maybe I haven’t said that before?). Look how pretty it all looks.

Their facebook page  hints at some exciting pieces coming in the next collection that launches in two weeks (studs – yuss, gold hardware – yussss!). So go check out for updates and general prettiness.

You’re going to have to be ok with strangers wanting to stroke your bag though – that will happen.

Dog bling: The mo’woof collar co.

Sometimes, when I’m not looking for stuff for myself I like to accessorise my pups. I’m not mean about it, I like to think I’m just slightly over-indulgent while remembering the importance of practicality and comfort – no dresses or headbands or backpacks (but hopefully that wasn’t where your mind was taking you anyway).

ANYWAY, my Mum (shout out!) brought The mo’woof Collar co. to my attention this week and I’m in love, not only are they handcrafted, high quality leather collars for dogs of all sizes but they are variously adorned with different types of studs. Gorgeous studs, shiny studs, gunmetal studs all in neat and classic lines and formations. Awkward teen punks should look elsewhere. Dogs in sunglasses and frilly outfits, jog on.

The mo’woof collar co. was formed by Christchurch designer Kathryn Leah Payne after she became frustrated with the lack of high quality dog collars in New Zealand. Each collar is made to order, by hand from the finest quality leathers and hardware. My favourites have to be the ‘The Mini Main Divide’  $79 NZ and ‘The Gladiator’ $209 NZ (would love to see this in mini). I’m looking forward to seeing soft greyhound collars released soon, Jasper is well overdue for an upgrade.
